Two children were accidentally shot with their mother’s gun in eastern Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police said on Tuesday, authorities responded to Ramey Branch Road, about 15 miles south of Louisa, in Lawrence County, on the report of a shooting. State police said the children, ages four and 11, were apparently struck by the same bullet as they played with their mother’s .22 target pistol.

Police said the mother failed to secure the firearm.

Both children suffered non-life threatening injures, as the four-year-old was struck in the leg; the 11-year-old was hit in the side.

Both victims were transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia.

Authorities said they plan to present evidence in the case to a grand jury for possible indictment.
