Dudley James VanMeter, age 88, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Sunday, (November 18, 2018) at his home.

He was born on November 06, 1930 in Edmonson County, KY, the son of the late Earl and Mary Sanders VanMeter.

He was a retired machine operator at Reynolds Metals who enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting and playing guitar and was a member of Greenwood Road Baptist Church in Louisville.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Akers VanMeter, of Leitchfield; five sons, Dudley James “Jimmy” VanMeter Jr of Pleasure Ridge Park, KY, Michael “Mickey” VanMeter (Ora), Ricky VanMeter (Rita), Charles “Chip” VanMeter (Tammy) all of Leitchfield, Joshua VanMeter (Alexis) of Clarkson, KY; two daughters, Tammy Jo VanMeter and Robin Ann Grant (Todd), both of Leitchfield; 14 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-granddaughter; three brothers, Virgil VanMeter of Edmonson County, Eddie and Larry VanMeter, both of Leitchfield; and one sister, Dorothy Jaggers of Edmonson County. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-grandson, J.T. Rigdon; a daughter-in-law, Sharon VanMeter; two brothers, Donald and Willie VanMeter; and four sisters, Cova Duncan, Ruby Cook, Ellanora Wood and Willadean Cockerel.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, (November 24, 2018) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Earl Day and Bro. Wayne Clemons and will be officiating. Burial will be in the Sonora Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
