A knife-wielding Leitchfield man was arrested Saturday night at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.

Grayson County Deputy Mark Johnson, Special Deputy Mark Stanton and Leitchfield Police Officers Chase Melton and Taylor Logsdon were dispatched to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center after hospital staff reported a man with a knife driving in the parking lot.

Upon arriving at the scene, Johnson and Stanton encountered 37-year-old Jason D. Hunt and a female in a vehicle. The female, who was in the driver’s seat, left the vehicle, saying that Hunt was “out of his head,” according to police.

Hunt, who remained in the vehicle, was “shouting unintelligibly while swinging the knife around,” authorities said, and as police approached the vehicle, Hunt jumped into the driver’s seat and tried to start the car.

Police gave multiple commands for Hunt to drop the knife and exit the vehicle, but the suspect offered no compliance. Hunt continued to shout and disobey commands, resulting in Johnson tasing Hunt, who then dropped the knife and fell to the ground (through the open driver’s side door).

During a search of the vehicle, police located a bag of pills in the center console and a “loaded” syringe.

Hunt was arrested and taken into the ER to be medically cleared. He was then transported to the Grayson County Detention Center where he’s been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance (drugs unspecified), resisting arrest, menacing, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Hunt was also served with an outstanding warrant.
