Virgil Lee Keown, age 75, of Big Clifty, KY, passed away Wednesday, (November 21, 2018) Hardin Memorial Hospital.

He was born on August 25, 1943 in Millwood, KY, the son of the late Roy and Virginia Fulkerson Keown.

A veteran of the US Army, he was a production associate in a steel plant and a former  Fire Chief at the East Grayson Fire Department. He enjoyed turkey hunting, watching westerns, was an avid UK basketball fan, and loved to picking at people, making them laugh and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the New Hope Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Darlene Cripps Keown of Big Clifty; a son, Allen Keown (Linda) of Leitchfield; a daughter, Angie Lampton (Junior) of Big Clifty; three grandchildren, Samantha Byerline (Marvin), Matthew Lampton, and Carter Keown; one great-granddaughter, Lora Byerline; three brothers, Charles, Dee and Robbie Keown; two sisters, Stella Newton and Shirley Saltsman.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry and Roy Keown.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, (November 27, 2018) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Richard Peterson will be officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Church of Christ Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of services.
