Woodford Co. Judge-Executive passes away

Woodford County Judge-Executive John “Bear” Coyle passed away Sunday afternoon.

The 63-year-old Coyle served Woodford County as judge-executive since 2007. Prior to being elected judge-executive, Coyle became a deputy in the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office in 1986 and was elected sheriff in 1996, an office he held until 2006.

Coyle was originally from Nonesuch, a small town about 12 miles south of Versailles.

The Woodford County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post:

We are saddened by the sudden passing of Woodford County Judge Executive and former Sheriff John “Bear” Coyle. He was a true friend of all Woodford County and will be missed.

Please keep Mary Don, Andrew, John Paul, Roy, Matthew and the rest of the Coyle family in your thoughts and prayers.

Midway Mayor Grayson Vandegrift said in a post on Facebook:

I am saddened to report of the passing of Woodford County Judge Executive John “Bear” Coyle. He was a man of class whose love of Woodford County was only surpassed by his love for his family. I enjoyed working with Judge Coyle, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family in their time of grief. Rest In Peace, Bear, your public service is an inspiration to many.
