Health officials are urging consumers to not eat Bauer’s Candies’ Modjeskas made in Lawrenceburg after an employee of the candy-maker tested positive for Hepatitis A.

The FDA is asking consumers to throw away any product purchased after November 14, though people who purchased the candy are at low risk of becoming infected with the liver disease.

At this time, the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are not aware of any cases of hepatitis A related to consumption of these candies, according to a press release from the FDA.

The best practices to avoid getting Hepatitis A are to be vaccinated and exercise proper hand washing practices.

Health experts say symptoms of hepatitis A are fatigue, decreased appetite, stomach pain, nausea, darkened urine, pale stools and jaundice. People can become ill 15-50 days after being exposed to the virus. Anyone experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention.
