The Millwood man arrested on December 3, 2017 for raping and sodomizing an eight-month old child and filming the sexual assaults on his cell phone pled guilty to multiple federal charges on Monday.

James D. Armes, 37, pled guilty before United States District Judge Joseph H. McKinley to five counts of production of child pornography, two counts of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography, according to United States Attorney Russell M. Coleman.

Armes had been indicted by a federal grand jury on the charges in May.

Grayson County Deputy Rance Whobrey and Kentucky State Police Trooper Joey Beasley arrested Armes in Millwood on sodomy and rape charges after discovering images and videos of Armes committing sex crimes against a baby and another victim.

The sheriff’s office then turned the case over to the FBI, which proceeded with the investigation and Armes’ prosecution. Armes, who already had a rape conviction on his record, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison, and not more than 350 years of incarceration, according to Coleman.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Spencer McKiness.
