Kentucky State Police: Inmate attempts suicide at McCracken County Jail, dies two days later

Kentucky State Police is investigating an inmate death at the McCracken County Jail.

Authorities said KSP received a call from the jail early Friday morning about an inmate who tried to commit suicide. Police said jail staff found 35-year-old Ronald G. Ledbetter, of Smithland (Livingston Co.), unresponsive in his cell, with first aid immediately given to the inmate. A medical crew soon arrived and transported Ledbetter to a local hospital.

Police said Ledbetter died Sunday afternoon.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Madisonville.
