Two Grayson County residents have been arrested after police located methamphetamine and counterfeit cash during traffic stop in Leitchfield.

On Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:15, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Leitchfield Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a 1999 Ford Explorer on Shelby Street, in Leitchfield, after LPD Officer Eugene Cain recognized the driver, 27-year-old Benjamin T. Daugherty, of Falls of Rough. According to the arrest citation, Cain knew Daugherty did not have a valid driver’s license and that there was an active EPO between Daugherty and his wife and passenger, Tina Daugherty, 44.

Benjamin Daugherty was taken into custody for driving on a revoked driver’s license and for violating an EPO. As Cain questioned Tina Daugherty, Grayson County Sgt. Fred Norder deployed his K-9, Marco, around the outside of the vehicle. As Norder walked Marco around the SUV, the drug dog alerted on the driver’s side door.

Officer Cain and Sgt. Norder then searched the vehicle and discovered several dozen counterfeit hundred dollar bills along with an ounce of methamphetamine, and multiple syringes, according to the citation. Several syringes were also found in Tina Daugherty’s purse.

The Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force was notified, with the agency seizing the methamphetamine, police said.

Benjamin Daugherty was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school (methamphetamine), trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO, failure to surrender a revoked operator’s license, failure to maintain required insurance, and driving on a suspended or revoked operator’s license. There are no charges yet posted related to the counterfeit cash found in the vehicle.

Tina Daugherty was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both suspects are being held in the Grayson County Detention Center.
