Big second half gives Red Devils 60-34 rout of Cougars

The Owensboro Red Devils outscored the Cougars 33-15 in the second half Tuesday night in Owensboro to turn what had been a close game into a rout on their way to a 60-34 win.

After the Red Devils opened the scoring with the first four points, the Cougars responded with seven straight to lead 7-4 at the 4:27 mark of the first period.

The Red Devils responded with nine unanswered points to lead 13-7 at the 7:37 mark of the second period. A six-footer by Josh Embry at the 3:58 mark capped a 7-2 Cougar run that pulled them to within a point of the lead at 15-14. That would be as close as they would get to a lead the rest of the game.

Owensboro closed out the half by outscoring the Cougars 12-5 to lead 27-19 at the half.

The Red Devils then doubled up the Cougars in the third quarter, outscoring them 18-9, before holding Grayson County to just six points in the fourth quarter.

Amari Robinson-Wales and Darrion Wimsatt both scored 14 points to lead the Red Devils, while Jayden Greathouse added 10.

Q’Daryius McHenry led the Cougars with 12 points and he also led the team on the boards with eight rebounds. Spencer Sharp scored nine points, while Nolan Shartzer added six.

Josh Embry scored four points, while Wyatt Schultz closed out the scoring with three points.
