Friday night just before 7:00, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments and EMS responded to the 1,000 block of Shrewsbury Road on the report of a single-car accident.

According to authorities, the vehicle’s occupants, Jody and Nancy Wilson, of Smiths Grove, were traveling south to watch a high school basketball game at Grayson County High School when the driver missed the turn onto School House Road, from Shrewsbury Road.

After passing School House Road, the coupled continued south, traveling a short distance before attempting to turn around. As the driver backed the car off the road to turn around, the Jeep fell into a 12-15 foot culvert, landing on the driver’s side.

Upon arriving at the scene, Sheriff Norman Chaffins, LFD Chief Tim Duvall, Sgt. Fred Norder, and Deputy Mark Johnson tore off the fiberglass top of the Jeep Wrangler to free the couple, according to police.

Both victims were airlifted from Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, with one flown to Evansville, the other victim to Louisville.
