Sunday night at approximately 10:40, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3900 block of Bowling Green Road on the report of a single-car accident.

Upon arriving at the scene, Sgt. Fred Norder and Deputies Kelsey Overton and Brandon Rafferty, found a northbound Chevrolet Malibu, being driven by 20-year-old Mariah Maupin, of Campbellsville, had left the roadway while coming out of a curve. The vehicle traveled about 40 feet into a ditch and struck a small culvert, sending the car airborne, before traveling another 80 yards in a deep ditch.

Neither Maupin nor her passenger, 49-year-old Frank L. Magolis, of Caneyville, were injured in the crash.

Norder detained both Maupin and Magolis after a witness stated that he saw needles in the car, and told deputies one occupant fled the scene.

Once the vehicle was removed from the ditch, Norder and Overton searched the car, finding several syringes, one loaded syringe and two vials of apparent Naloxone (aka Narcan, a medication used to block the effects of opioids, specifically an opioid overdose).

Both suspects were arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center. The investigation into this incident continues.
