The Clarkson Police Department is investigating after a man purchased a drone with counterfeit money.

Clarkson Police Chief Buck Meredith said that on Tuesday, a Clarkson man arranged to meet an unidentified male he met on Facebook. The two met in a public parking lot in Clarkson at approximately 10:30 in the evening, where the victim agreed to sell the man a drone for $100.

The man, identified on Facebook as Paul Davidson, of Leitchfield, told the victim he lived near the 200 block of Peonia Road. The suspect also claims in his Facebook profile to work at MTD.

Meredith said that the man’s name is not Paul Davidson, adding, “nor do we believe he lives around the 200 block of Peonia Road.”

The victim said the suspect was a white male in his mid-20s, standing about 5-foot-10. He is heavy set with dark hair, a brown beard and goatee.

Anyone with information on the possible identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Clarkson PD at 270-242-2841.

Meredith said that with “more purchases being made from social media sites, the chance for fraud is on the rise. People need to use caution and educate themselves before making a purchase or selling items online. When meeting a stranger to buy/sell items, always meet in a well-trafficked area, preferably during daylight hours. If the meeting must be after dark, be sure to meet inside a business that has surveillance cameras.”

Meredith also recommends taking someone along with you, ask for a receipt and always ask for identification.
