Lady Cougars fall to Muhlenberg County, 59-45

After hanging with the visiting Muhlenberg County Lady Mustangs for nearly three quarters, the Lady Cougars were outscored 32-18 at the end and fell 59-45, their seventh loss in their last eight games.

Both teaks had difficulty scoring at the start of the game and it wasn’t until nearly three minutes had run off the clock before Kenzie Renfrow opened the scoring by hitting a lay-in at the 5:04 mark. The Lady Mustangs led 9-6 at the end of the first period.

Muhlenberg led by as many as seven points in the second period, 13-6 at the 7:20 mark, but the Lady Cougars responded with an 11-1 run to grab a three-point lead, 17-14 with 3:22 left in the half. Muhlenberg then closed out the half on an 8-2 run to lead by three, 22-19 at the break.

When Rachael Snyder scored on a lay-in at the 4:22 mark of the third quarter, the score was tied at 27-27. That’s when the Lady Mustangs took off. They closed out the period on a 10-3 run to lead by seven, 37-30 heading into the final period of play.

When they opened the fourth quarter with a with an 11-1 run, they led by 17 points, 48-31 and the contest was pretty much over.

Muhlenberg’s junior point guard Destin Armour led all scorers in the game with 31 points, while Alaira Drake added 10 points for the Lady Mustangs.

Renfrow and Laura Vincent led the Lady Cougars with 13 points apiece. Vincent made it a double-double night by leading the team on the glass with 10 rebounds. Renfrow added seven rebounds and a team-high six assists before fouling out with five seconds left in the game.

Rachael Snyder was the third Lady Cougar in double figures, finishing with 10 points and adding seven rebounds. Kaylee Masden scored six points, while Bailey Snyder added three to complete the Lady Cougar scoring.
