An Oldham County teacher has been arrested for having sex with her former student.

Amy Hamilton, 40, who currently teaches biology at South Oldham High School and previously taught at Stuart Pepper Middle School, in Brandenburg, is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old former student at her home in Corydon, Indiana, in March 2018.

According to police, Hamilton met the teen when she was his teacher at Stuart Pepper Middle School. She is not accused of having an inappropriate relationship with the student while she was his teacher. Authorities said she kept in contact with the teen via text messages after she left the middle school to teach at South Oldham HS.

Police discovered messages between Hamilton and the boy on the boy’s cell phone. Those messages alluded to the intimate sexual relationship, according to authorities.

Harrison County (IN) prosecutors have charged Hamilton with sexual misconduct with a minor, a felony. She is also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, for providing the teen with alcohol.

Hamilton was booked into the Harrison County (IN) Detention Center on Monday morning and was released on a $5,000 bond.

She faces up to 12-years in prison if convicted.
