A baby girl has been born after her pregnant mother was shot and killed Saturday night in Whitley County.

Kentucky State Police said authorities were requested at Baptist Health Corbin hospital Saturday night at 6:20 after a pregnant woman suffering a gunshot wound arrived at the emergency room. State police said 29-year-old Geri D. Johnson, of Williamsburg, died from her injuries but the hospital’s staff was able to deliver Johnson’s baby.

The newborn was transferred to University of Kentucky Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and is in critical condition, police said.

No charges have been filed as Kentucky State Police continue the investigation.
