An Oldham County school bus driver has been charged with DUI after wrecking a bus with 33 elementary school students on board.

On Friday afternoon at approximately 4:20, the Oldham County Police Department was contacted by an official from the Oldham County Board of Education who informed police that the driver, 54-year-old Lesley Harvey, of Crestwood, had crashed a school bus, and that school officials suspected alcohol played a role in the crash.

According to police, after the school bus struck a security barrier near a subdivision, Harvey notified her supervisor but said there was no damage and continued her route. Police say school officials ordered Harvey to stop her route, which she did. Harvey was then transported to a hospital for a blood alcohol test and law enforcement was notified.

After an investigation, Harvey was arrested and charged with DUI, 33 counts of wanton endangerment, endangerment the welfare of a minor, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident.

Harvey is being held in the Oldham County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
