Kentucky State Police has released additional information after a child was struck by a vehicle as he rode a bike on Millerstown Road.

KSP spokesman Scotty Sharp said that Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins requested assistance from KSP in working the accident, which occurred at approximately 5:20 Monday afternoon in the 1800 block of Millerstown Road.

Sharp said the preliminary investigation showed that 62-year-old Debra Boone, of Caneyville, was traveling west on Millerstown Road in a 2010 Cadillac SUV when an 11-year-old boy entered the roadway on a bicycle and crossed into Boone’s path. Police said Boone attempted to avoid the child but was unsuccessful.

Upon being struck, the juvenile was thrown down a short embankment. He was airlifted from the Clarkson ball fields to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville where he’s listed in critical condition. Boone was unhurt.

Millerstown Road was shut down at the scene of the accident for about two hours as KSP accident re-constructionist Brandon Brooks worked the scene.

In addition to Kentucky State Police, responding to the accident were the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Clarkson Fire Department, and EMS.
