A former Hickman County sheriff has been indicted by a grand jury for misappropriating funds.

On Thursday, the Hickman County Grand Jury indicted former sheriff Mark Green, 50, of Mayfield, on one count of abuse of public trust (under $10,000), a class D felony.

The indictment stems from a Kentucky State Police investigation into missing funds from an account Green had access to while serving as sheriff.

This is the second time Green has been accused of misusing funds. In March 2015, a state audit showed that Green was responsible nearly $3,000 in disallowed expenditures during the 2013 calendar year. Those expenditures were considered disallowed due to the personal nature of the spending, or the lack of supporting documentation, according to media reports. Green repaid that money to Hickman County Fiscal Court.

Green was first elected sheriff in 2010. He did not run for reelection in 2018.
