On the final day of the spring sports season, Grayson County’s Ethan Pierce finished as the state runner-up in the pole vault at the KHSAA Track and Field Championships this past weekend.

The junior Pierce jumped a height of 14-feet to claim second place. He finished only six inches off of the state champion, Louisville Eastern’s Luke Levinson. In addition to his state finish, his total gave him recognition as a member of the MileSplit US Second Team, which recognizes athletes who perform at a certain level that they classify as an “elite performance.”

Last month, Pierce won the regional title in the pole vault as well with a mark of 15-feet which broke a school record.

In addition to Pierce, the Cougars got top 25 finishes from: junior Laura Vincent in the pole vault (20th) and high jump (25th), senior Emery Crume in the triple jump (14th) and senior Ryan Johnson in the 100m dash (22nd).

This performance by the Grayson County track and field team closed out a successful season for the programs that saw multiple region titles between track and cross country.
