Early Wednesday morning, a man was found lying in the middle of Morgantown Road suffering from what originally appeared to be multiple stab wounds.

Wednesday morning at approximately 3:15, Grayson County Deputy DJ Newton, Leitchfield Police Officer Keith Harrell, Caneyville Police Chief Anthony Clark, the Caneyville Fire Department, and EMS responded to Morgantown Road, about one mile into Butler County (the 911 call was dispatched to Grayson County), after two men found another male heavily bleeding in the middle of the roadway.

The man, who has not yet identified, was highly combative and uncooperative with the two men trying to help him and remained that way with first responders until he was loaded into an ambulance. This made it difficult for law enforcement to piece together what happened to the man and how he ended up in the middle of Morgantown Road.

He suffered from what appeared to be deep, slashing cut marks on his forearm and under one armpit, along with other parts of his body. The man, a white male in his mid-40s, was bleeding profusely when he was found. He was transported by EMS to The Medical Center in Bowling Green after both local medical helicopter companies were unable to fly because of weather concerns.

Newton, after conducting his own investigation, requested assistance from Kentucky State Police Post 3. A detective was sent to the scene.

A source familiar with the investigation said it now appears the man suffered his injuries in some other way, and was likely not stabbed. It’s also possible that the driver who found the man may have accidentally struck the victim with his truck. The incident occurred in a straight but dark stretch of roadway.

K105 will have additional information on this story as it becomes available.
