The Elizabethtown man accused of killing two people in February has been admitted to the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center in La Grange.

Shadrach Peeler, 35, has been charged with two counts of murder, two counts of assault, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence, and resisting arrest in a deadly shooting in and around the T Mart convenience store at 600 North Miles Street, just across the street from Memorial United Methodist Church and Elizabethtown High School.

The shootings occurred at approximately 11:30 Thursday night, February 21.

According to Peeler’s arrest citation, upon police arriving at the scene, authorities located one of the deceased victims, 34-year-old Cherie Turner, of Elizabethtown, “in the area of West Warfield Street,” about two-tenths of a mile from the T Mart. Another victim, 40-year-old Subash Ghale, of Elizabethtown, was found deceased inside the T Mart. A third victim, 31-year-old Prayash Baniya, of Elizabethtown, suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck, was also found inside the T Mart. A fourth victim, 34-year-old Nadia Brown, of Elizabethtown, was shot in the leg and was located outside the convenience store.

Peeler and Turner lived together in a home on West Warfield Street. Ghale was the co-owner of T Mart and Baniya is a store employee.

Peeler was admitted to the psychiatric center for evaluation on May 23, according to the News-Enterprise. It’s unclear how long the evaluation will take.

Hardin County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shane Young previously said he plans to seek the death penalty if Peeler is convicted.
