A Breckinridge County man has been jailed after dragging one Kentucky State Police Trooper almost running over another trooper with his car.

Kentucky State Police Post 4 spokesperson Scotty Sharp said that on Tuesday, Trooper Eric Smallwood was on patrol when he observed a vehicle in the parking lot of the Kroger at 10645 Dixie Highway, in Louisville.

As Smallwood attempted to make contact with the vehicle’s occupant, 26-year-old Thomas A. Trummer, of Irvington, Trummer fled in the car, dragging Smallwood with the vehicle. Smallwood ended up losing Trummer and later obtained arrest warrants for wanton endangerment of a police officer, fleeing or evading police and third-degree assault, according to Sharp.

Then, Thursday afternoon at approximately 5:50, police spotted Trummer as he sat in a vehicle in the parking lot Hotel Louisville, on the corner of West Broadway Street and 2nd Street. As police attempted to make contact with Trummer, he again fled the scene before ramming a KSP cruiser, and nearly striking a trooper, resulting in troopers firing at and striking Trummer’s vehicle.

Trummer, with a female passenger in the car, sped through the parking lot, police said, driving through an iron fence and into heavy traffic. While fleeing police, Trummer struck the MetroSafe building at Fifth and Liberty Streets, and nearly crashed into a crowd of people at Fourth Street Live! Police said Trummer possibly hit another car as he fled.

Trummer then drove his car onto I-64, where he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot (the female with Trummer was arrested at the vehicle. Police have not released her name or charges she faces). At that time, Louisville Metro Police Department was requested to assist in the search, with an LMPD helicopter, K-9 unit and other specialty units assisting troopers in the manhunt.

At approximately 8:30 Thursday night, Trummer was found in Lannan Memorial Park, near the Ohio River, and taken into custody and lodged in Louisville Metro Corrections.
