A McCreary County deputy has been shot by a Pulaski County man while responding to a domestic disturbance.

Tuesday night at approximately 8:00, the unidentified deputy responded to a domestic dispute on Rock Lick Creek Road, and upon arriving, was shot by 48-year-old Mark L. Dungan, of Science Hill, as Dungan sat in a car outside a residence, according to Kentucky State Police.

After shooting the deputy, Dungan fled the scene and struck a constable head-on as he responded to the call. The constable was uninjured.

State police and McCreary County deputies soon located Dungan in a cemetery and arrested the suspect without incident.

The injured deputy was airlifted to University of Tennessee Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

Dungan was lodged in the Leslie County Detention Center. No charges have yet been listed on the detention center website.
