Vice President Mike Pence will visit Kentucky on Thursday to discuss a readiness training program and give a speech on the opioid crisis.

Pence will travel to Manchester, in Clay County, before visiting Eastern Kentucky University where he will be joined by Gov. Matt Bevin and Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar for a briefing on the Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) program that Bevin brought to Kentucky.

The IRT program is a Department of Defense project that partners with towns across the country to provide medical care and infrastructure needs to rural and underprivileged communities.

Following the briefing, Pence will deliver remarks to approximately 200 attendees about the opioid crisis, and how Kentucky is responding to the epidemic, before returning to Washington, D.C.
