A Bullitt Central High School teacher terminated last year has been found not guilty of making threats toward the school.

Dusty Witherspoon, 36, of Shepherdsville, was charged with terroristic threatening and criminal mischief in October 2018, after entering school grounds illegally and sending what was perceived as a threatening text message to a teacher.

After being told she was not to be on school grounds, police said at the time that Witherspoon left the building but came back inside through a different entrance. She eventually left school grounds on her own, but sent a text message to another employee making threats toward the school.

According to Witherspoon’s arrest warrant, the text message stated, “I’m about to f— some sh— up … if they want to get ugly it’s going to get reeeealllly ugly. I’m at my limit I’ve put up with enough sh–. I’m done.”

The school was placed on soft lockdown as a precaution and a police officer was stationed at the school.

While Witherspoon was found not guilty of the charges, her termination remains in place but is not yet final, as she has filed an appeal.

The district released a statement on Friday concerning Witherspoon’s status:

The criminal charges against Ms. Dusty Witherspoon were not directly related to the matters leading to the termination of her teaching contract with the Bullitt County Public Schools. The criminal trial verdict has no effect on the termination, which remains in place. Ms. Witherspoon has filed an appeal, which is her right pursuant to statute. It is the intention of the Superintendent to fully defend his decision in relation to Ms. Witherspoon’s contract.
