A former Hancock County High School teacher and track coach who was convicted of possessing child pornography has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The investigation into 49-year-old Daniel S. Neal, of Owensboro, began in May 2012 when investigators red flagged his IP address because of the large amount of pornography he was downloading, according to media reports.

Neal, who was an English teacher, was indicted by a Daviess County Grand Jury in November 2012 on 39 child porn charges. He’s been free since posting a $120,000 bond a week after his indictment.

During Neal’s July 2019 trial, investigators testified to finding “hundreds” of photos and videos of child pornography, as well as information on how to remove files from hard drives to dupe a forensic investigation.

Daviess Circuit Judge Joe Castlen denied the defense motions for probation, bail and a new trial, saying the evidence presented at trial “was simply overwhelming.”
