A former judge-executive has pled guilty to stealing nearly $40,000 in grant money.

Wallace Taylor, 57, of Irvine, pled guilty to one count of abuse of public trust under $10,000. While serving as Estill County Judge-Executive from December 2016 through March 2017, Taylor took more than $38,000 in state grant money that belonged to the county, prosecutors said.

He was sentenced to three years in prison, but his sentence was “diverted for a period of five years,” according to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office. The plea agreement also orders Taylor to pay $38,850 in restitution to Estill County.
