A long-time Leitchfield City Council member has announced he is not running for reelection next year.

Kelly Stevenson has announced he will not seek reelection to his twelfth term as councilman.

“I feel the time is right to step aside as we have a dedicated and experienced group of present council members,” Stevenson said. “This group along with the mayor will offer guidance to the several new prospective candidates seeking a seat.”

Stevenson, who positioned himself as a progressive councilman with an eye cast toward fiscal responsibility, supported many recent projects, including the construction of Veteran’s Memorial Park, the new Leitchfield baseball fields, as well as extension of the William Thomason Byway, scheduled to begin in earnest next year. He also supported moving Leitchfield City Hall and the Leitchfield PD headquarters to the old Rite Aid building.

Additionally, Stevenson and his wife, Rita, have championed the annual Art in the Park event and are heavily involved in the Grayson County Historical Society where he serves as vice president.

“I am proud of our accomplishments of the last few years and look forward to seeing the future as we move forward,” Stevenson stated. “Thanks to all who supported me in the past. It has been a humbling and enriching experience.”
