The Grayson County Health Center has released its restaurant/food inspection results for the month of November.

The rating score of the establishment is determined by subtracting weighted point values of noted violations from 100, according to officials. Unannounced inspections observe the overall operation, including food source and protection; personnel; food equipment and utensils; maintenance of water and sewage systems; garbage and refuse disposal; insect, rodent and animal control; and storage of toxic items, among others.

Critical violations, four and five points in weight, are items, which if uncorrected, carry the potential to be an imminent threat to the public’s health. These items must be corrected in a time designated by the health department not to exceed 10 days.

Several establishments struggled with November’s inspections, as Short Creek Store, Robbie’s Quick Stop, Crossroads Market, Rough River State Park Lodge, and Speedy Mart each recorded over 20 violations (and in some cases, well over 20 violations). Because of so many low scores, several follow-up visits had to be made, where only marginal improvement was noted in some cases.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Hatfield Inn posted a high score for November with a near-perfect 99.

Robbie’s Quick Stop: Food score 81; Retail score 93 — Food violations: No person in charge at time of inspection, no towel dispenser at hand sink in prep area, food in freezer in game room not properly secured, sanitizer bucket too strong, no sink stoppers for three compartment sink, dish drainer missing, chemicals not properly stored in food area (corrected), no specialized process for disposing of trash, trash area very unclean, wiping cloths not properly used in prep area, no hand washing sign in prep area, inside cooler unclean, cutting board in poor repair, gaskets torn on cold unit, cold unit leaking in prep area, three compartment sink leaking in prep area, no soap in men’s restroom, no trash can for feminine products in women’s, floors unclean, no divide between hand sink and three compartment sink. Food follow-up score 83.

Follow-up score 96.

Hatfield Inn: Food score 99 — Violation: One thermometer missing in cold unit.

Crossroads Market: Food score 84; Retail score 98 — Food violations: Three compartment sink set-up incorrectly, no sanitizer bucket set-up, no sanitizer in prep area (corrected), food product out of date (milk, corrected), no consumer advisory posted in prep area (corrected), single service items not properly stored, small fan unclean, fan grill unclean in units, top of units unclean, bare wood siding, bare wood wall behind hand sink, no splash guard on hand sink, container in sink for utensils in poor repair, hand sink faucet leaking in prep area, no mop sink installed in establishment, riser lid on septic tank in poor repair, concrete lid missing on septic tank, large concrete water unit lid is missing, no hand washing sign in restroom, restroom door is not self closing, no hot water in establishment.
