In the opening game of district play on Friday night, the Grayson County Lady Cougars picked up a 66-56 win over the Lady Cats of Edmonson County.

In the win, senior Kenzie Renfrow set a new career-high with 33 points as did freshman Aryssa Riggs who finished with 15.

After the Lady Cougars got a quick 4-0 lead to start, Edmonson County had a quick answer with a 13-0 run to give them a 13-4 lead. In a game of first half runs, Grayson County came back with 7 straight points, highlighted by a Renfrow three-pointer, to bring the deficit to 13-10 at the end of the opening quarter.

The second quarter was all Aryssa Riggs. The freshman guard had 11 points in the quarter, 9 of which came from beyond the arc as the Lady Cougars exploded to lead 33-25 at the break. One of the highlights of the quarter was a steal by Annie Kiper who went coast to coast for a perfect layup to give the blue and orange the lead for good.

The Lady Cats were never able to get within a basket for the remainder of the game as Renfrow dominated in the second half; scoring 24 of her 33 points.

In addition to Renfrow and Riggs, junior Rachael Snyder had 9 points, Ella Robinson had 6, Annie Kiper with 4 and Jenna Nash had 1 point.

Katie Lindsey had 24 points to lead the way for Edmonson County.

The Lady Cougars improved to 3-2 on the season. They will face Warren Central on Thursday evening at Russellville. The coverage of that game will be broadcast on K105. This will be the second meeting between the two teams this month with Grayson County winning in Bowling Green on Dec. 5.
