Grayson County High School will not have to look far for their next head coach as the school announced Thursday that Bryan Jones will take over as the head of the program.

Jones will replace Ed Smart, who resigned last month after spending 16 seasons as the head coach of the Cougars.

Jones has been a member of Smart’s staff since the 2016 season.

While in college at the University of Florida, Jones interned with then University of Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen. Prior to coming to GCHS, he was the head coach at Todd County Central for six seasons where he compiled a record of 12-50. In addition to coaching football, he was the head coach of the Todd County boys track team where he won the 2015 region title. He also began wrestling and weightlifting teams and helped the girl’s team win back to back state titles in 2014 and 2015.

Jones will take over a program that finished last season with a record of 7-4 and saw their season end with a loss to Graves County in the first round of the 5A Playoffs.

He is married to Alana; a Grayson County native and alum of GCHS.

It is expected that the 2020 Cougars will open the regular season at home against Hancock County.
