A former commonwealth’s attorney has been charged with misusing thousands of dollars of public funds.

According to Kentucky State Police, the new Commonwealth’s Attorney for Graves County, Richie Kemp, asked KSP to investigate former Graves County Commonwealth’s Attorney David Hargrove regarding allegations he used public funds for personal use.

Hargrove’s term ended on December 31, 2019.

KSP’s investigation, which included subpoenas being issued to obtain financial records pertaining to deposits and withdrawals from the account in question, uncovered multiple debits from a forfeiture account that was used for “non-qualifying expenses.”

A grand jury in Franklin County, where the case was moved, returned an indictment of felony abuse of public trust (more than $10,000) against Hargrove. He has been ordered to court to answer the charges on January 31.
