The father and aunt of a two-year-old boy have been arrested after police discovered the toddler living in abhorrent conditions.

Friday morning, deputies with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at a residence on Parks Subdivision Road, about eight miles south of London. Upon arriving at the home, deputies observed the two-year-old playing on a floor covered in dog feces, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root. Police added that the child’s feet were covered in dog feces as the boy played with a bottle of bleach.

Authorities said there were large piles of dog feces throughout the residence, along with trash on the floor and countertops.

Police arrested the toddler’s father, 30-year-old Joey Ridener, and aunt, 35-year-old Tammy Hammons, both of London, who told deputies they couldn’t remember the last time the child had been given a bath.

Both suspects were charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child under the age of 12 and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
