At Tuesday night’s Leitchfield City Council meeting — attended for the third time in 2020 by many of the 12 non-incumbent candidates running for a council seat — council members approved the first reading of a rezoning request for three lots on Cameron Drive, in Tara Woods subdivision.

The request, made by Charlie and Nell Elmore, asked that lots 106, 107 and 108 be changed from R-4 (two family) to R-2A (single family high density).

The rezoning request was made because the current zoning classification allows for duplexes to be built on the property but does not allow for patio homes to be constructed.

The Leitchfield Planning Commission previously unanimously approved the request, with council members also voting to allow the zoning change.

LFD Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) on the verge of being updated

With the SOP document not being updated since the late 1970s, the council accepted the new standard operating procedures, but subsequent votes are still needed to change the existing ordinance detailing procedures for the Leitchfield Fire Department.

The 35-page document “establishes rules, regulations and expectations for the members of Leitchfield Fire Department,” and “replaces and supersedes any and all by-laws … and any other governing document created by the Leitchfield Fire Department up to this current document.”

Future votes will come after the first and second readings of the amended ordinance. It is anticipated that the first reading of the newly fashioned ordinance will take place at the next regularly scheduled city council meeting on Monday, February 3, at 6:00 p.m.

Utilities employees receive raise

The council approved giving two Leitchfield Utilities employees $1 raises. The city and utilities will split the pay increase.
