An armed robbery suspect has been shot after running at Radcliff police while brandishing a knife.

Kentucky State Police spokesman Scotty Sharp said that Radcliff police responded Thursday morning at 2:15 to Pin Oak Apartments at 101 Navaho Drive on the report of an armed robbery. Sharp said the preliminary investigation revealed that upon police arriving on the scene, officers encountered a man with a knife outside the residence.

After making contact with the male suspect (who apparently lives at the apartment complex), he failed to obey officers’ repeated commands to drop the knife. The suspect then charged toward two of the officers, resulting in the officers shooting the man multiple times, according to Sharp.

The suspect was initially transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The two officers involved were placed on administrative leave, Sharp said.

Radcliff police said the suspect will be charged in relation to the armed robbery.

Kentucky State Police’s Critical Incident Response Team is leading the investigation. Neither the names of the suspect nor the officers involved have been released.
