A Harrison County man once accused of conspiracy to commit murder has been arrested after violently shaking his baby, causing serious brain injuries.

Robert Webber, 23, of Cynthiana, has been charged with first-degree assault after shaking his four-month-old baby girl, RheaLeigh. Webber shook the child so violently she’s had to have two procedures on her head at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She was listed in critical condition but has since stabilized.

According doctors, the baby has a history of brain bleeds, and has previously suffered broken ribs and a skull fracture. The child’s mother, Chellsea Vergara, told WKYT.com that she is not allowed to visit her daughter due to safety concerns.

Webber has been lodged in the Bourbon County Detention Center on a $15,000 cash bond.

In November 2015, Webber was arrested for conspiracy to commit murder after he met with a juvenile at a Cynthiana gas station and accepted cash to kill someone. According to police, Webber attempted to find the person but had no luck. When he was arrested he had two knives in his possession.

The conspiracy charged was later amended to unlawful transaction with a minor.
