A man has been killed after a head-on collision on Peonia Road.

Friday night at approximately 5:30, Grayson County Deputies Rick Mehlbauer and Mark Johnson, the Wax and Leitchfield Fire Departments, Kentucky State Trooper Brandon Brooks, and EMS responded to the 9000 block of Peonia Road at the intersection of Rocky Hill Estates Road on the report of a two-vehicle accident.

According to witnesses and marks at the scene, a 2014 Ford Super Duty truck, being driven by 53-year-old Vincent Abel, of Crestwood, had just turned left (west) onto Peonia Road from Rocky Hill Estates Road when an eastbound 1999 Dodge Ram truck, being driven by 36-year-old Travis Puckett, of Sonora, entered the westbound lane and struck the Ford head-on, sending both vehicles partially off the roadway.

Witnesses added that the Dodge did not have its headlights on at the time of the collision.

Puckett, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson. Abel and his passenger, 53-year-old Laura Shaw, of Louisville, were transported by EMS to Hardin Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, as Abel complained of chest pain and Shaw suffered a possible broken wrist.

Brooks, a KSP accident re-constructionist, arrived on scene at 6:40 and investigated and reconstructed the wreck for about two hours. His investigation continues.

Peonia Road was shut down at the collision site for about three hours.
