Clarkson Elementary wins Quick Recall District Governor’s Cup competition

Facing fierce competition, the Clarkson Elementary School Redhawks emerged victorious in District Governor’s Cup.

The Quick Recall team of Elizabeth Barnett, Piper Mangan. John Hatfield, Asa Bratcher, Tyler Hodges, and Elijah Barnett took first in that event. Future Problem Solvers Elizabeth Barnett, Asa Bratcher, Neely Hornbeck and Brianna Barclay placed third.

Individual awards went to: Math — Tyler Hodges (1st) and Aidan Moore (3rd); Science — Elijah Barnett (1st), Asa Bratcher (2nd); Social Studies — River Anderson (1st), John Hatfield (2nd), Owen Philips (t5th); Language Arts — Elizabeth Barnett (1st); Composition — Piper Mangan (1st); Art and Humanities – Piper Mangan (4th); Composition — Autumn Brown (4th).

The team previously won the countywide Quick Recall Challenge, and competed in the Hardin County Whiz Kids championship, coming in second place.

To date, the Clarkson 4th and 5th grade teams are undefeated. The team is coached by Julie Decker and Felicia Higdon.

Caneyville Elementary placed second in both Quick Recall and Future Problem Solving events. The team also had multiple individual award winners.

They were: Social Studies — Samuel Kessinger (3rd); Language Arts — Evelyn Smith (t2nd); Arts and Humanities — Josie Smith and Evelyn Smith (t2nd), Channing Peters (5th).

Lawler Elementary students taking individual awards include: Math — Jordan Smith (t4th); Science — Carter Bernard (5th); Social Studies — Anneliese McCray (t5th); Arts and Humanities — Marilyn Rodden (1st); Composition — Anneliese McCray (3rd).

Wilkey Elementary took home the coveted Hume Sportsmanship Award, voted on by participating teams. Individual awards went to: Math — Maddox Anderson (t4th); Science — Cooper Justis (3rd); Language Arts — Emelia Thurman (4th); Composition – Emilia Thurman (2nd).
