Two Leitchfield men have been arrested on drug trafficking charges after police responded to a counterfeit money complaint at Five Star Food Mart.

Friday night at about midnight, Leitchfield Police Officer DJ Newton and Grayson County Deputy Rick Mehlbauer responded to Five Star, at the intersection of South Main Street and West White Oak Street, after a man used a fake $20 bill to make a purchase. Upon arriving at the scene, police observed the suspect, 21-year-old Martin Valazquez, at the gas pumps.

As police spoke with Valazquez, 32-year-old William Santiago emerged from the vehicle, with authorities discovering he had a warrant for his arrest and hydrocodone pills in his pocket.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed methamphetamine and additional counterfeit money.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), two counts of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine, hydrocodone) and criminal possession of a forged instrument. Santiago was also served with a failure to appear warrant.

The suspects were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
