Catholic ousts Lady Cougars from 3rd Region Tournament, 79-53

Owensboro Catholic used a 21-5, second period run Monday night at the Sportscenter, in Owensboro, to take a big halftime lead, and they went on to eliminate the Lady Cougars 79-53 in the opening round of the 3rd Region Tournament.

The Lady Cougars trailed by eight points, 17-9, at the end of the first period, but put together a 10-2 run that tied the score at 19-19 with 4:34 left in the second quarter.

That’s when Catholic took off, closing out the first half by outscoring Grayson County 21-5 to lead by 16 points, 40-24 at the half.

The Lady Aces led by as many as 26 points in the third quarter before a three-pointer by Ella Robinson with 1:L27 left cut the lead to 22 points, 56-34 at the start of the fourth quarter.

A lay-up by Catholic’s Brooke Hamilton with 1:33 left to play gave the Lady Aces their largest lead of the night, 30 points at 78-48, but the Lady Cougars closed the game with a 5-1 run to make the final margin 26 points.

Hannah McKay led all scorers for the Lady Aces with 19 points, while Isabella Henning had 18, and Spencer Harvey added 10.

Kenzie Renfrow led the Lady Cougars, ending her Grayson County career with 17 points. Robinson joined Renfrow in double figures with 11 points and she led the team with four rebounds.

Bailey Snyder ended her career with eight points and two boards. Laura Vincent closed out her career with four points and three rebounds. Jenna Nash had three points in her final game for the Lady Cougars.

Aryssa Riggs and Gracie Franklin also had three points apiece, while Rachael Snyder and Mikah Lee closed out the scoring with two point each.

The Lady Cougars finished the season with a record of 20-13.
