GCHS DECA dominates state competition, sending 19 to national competition

Continuing a long tradition of excellence, Grayson County High School DECA is going to nationals, and one member has been selected to serve as Kentucky DECA president for the next year.

In total, 19 of 21 DECA students qualified to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Nashville, and all participating GCHS DECA members were event finalists at state competition, according to school officials.

The International Career Development Conference will be held from April 29 until May 2.

Additionally, GCHS junior Emma Finch was honored by being selected to serve as the 2020 – 2021 Kentucky DECA President. And in another flattering nod to GCHS DECA, Emily Cooley was named Outstanding Chapter Member.

Placing first in their events were Sophia Elmore (Integrated Marketing Campaign/Events), Isaac Butler (Professional Selling), Shelby Gary, Madelynn Henning and Emma Pierce (Business Solutions Project), Eli Helm and Emma Finch (Community Awareness Project), and Evan Hayse and Max Evans (Sales Project).

Taking second place in their respective events were Shay Snider and Anna Spalding (Marketing Management Team Decision Making), Zoe Coles (Financial Literacy Project), Kaylee House and Sam Wendt (Community Giving Project), Bailey Collin (Career Development), and Colton Glenn (Business Finance).

Coming in third place was Dawson Gorby (Food Marketing).

Camden Chitwood and Tanner Rivera (Sports & Entertainment Team Decision Making) and Luke Milliner (Principles of Business Management & Administration) were event finalists.
