Grayson County Schools will be closed beginning Monday, March 16, because of coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns.

Superintendent Doug Robinson, after consulting with the Grayson County School Board and principals, along with following Gov. Andy Beshear’s strong recommendation, has announced Grayson County schools will be OPEN on Friday, March 13, but will be closed beginning Monday, March 16, until April 13 (the original return date from Spring Break).

The return date of April 13 is “subject to change,” according to Robinson, and the school district “will provide as much notice as possible should it be extended.”

The following is the text of a one-call Robinson made Thursday night alerting parents to the decision to cease school and all school-related activities:

Grayson County Schools WILL be in session tomorrow, Friday, March 13.

It is very, very important that your child attend school tomorrow to receive their non-traditional instruction day assignments. Completion of these lessons will serve as their attendance record during any prolonged closure.

Gov. Andy Beshear has advised that all public and private schools cease in-person classes starting this coming Monday, March 16.

At this time, we plan to be closed through Spring Break, returning on Monday, April 13. This date is subject to change and we will provide as much notice as possible should it be extended.

We encourage all families to consider their available childcare options as they may be limited during this time.

This is a rapidly changing event and we appreciate your patience and support as we work to provide you with accurate updates as quickly as we possibly can.

Robinson said it is vital that students attend school on Friday, March 13, to receive packets outlining school work to be completed while students are out of school, as the school district is requesting the Kentucky Department of Education to approve the district utilizing NTI (Non-Traditional Instructional) Days for the time students will not be in school.
