Grayson County Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson has posted a coronavirus (COVID-19) update on his personal Facebook page.

Henderson said no new cases of the virus have been diagnosed in the county, and added that several coronavirus tests have been administered in Grayson County, with some test results coming back negative, while some results are pending.

Kentucky’s COVID-19 cases compared to bordering states

He encouraged people to continue to follow CDC guidelines as it pertains to social distancing, as Henderson noted some bordering states that have not aggressively responded to the virus are experiencing “elevated” COVID-19 cases.

As of Tuesday, Tennessee (seven million population) reported 2,389 coronavirus cases with 23 deaths; Indiana (6.7 million) reported 2,159 cases and 49 deaths; Ohio (11.7 million) has 2,199 confirmed cases with 55 deaths; West Virginia (1.8 million) has 162 COVID-19 cases with one death, but that state has only administered 4,143 tests; and Virginia (8.5 million) has 1,250 cases with 27 deaths.

Kentucky, with 4.4 million residents, has 594 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 18 deaths.

Conference call with Beshear

Henderson said he and many other county judge-executives participated in a conference call with Gov. Andy Beshear on Tuesday, with the governor encouraging local leadership to urge citizens to continue to follow social distancing and other coronavirus guidelines.

Henderson said Beshear noted during the conference call that he knows he’s being aggressive by issuing multiple executive orders limiting travel, business operations and closing schools, but that limiting person-to-person contact is the key to wiping out the virus.

“Quite frankly, if it’s going to save people’s lives, this is what we need to do,” Henderson stated.

Shop for essentials, do not “browse shop”

The judge said that he’s received several calls about people “browse shopping” at retail stores.

Henderson said with no equivocation, “Folks, if you’re going to browse shop, get your essentials and go home. We need to follow our guidelines and hopefully our numbers stay down.”

He said he will present another update Thursday afternoon at 3:30 on K105’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
