Now, only one county bordering Grayson County has zero confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.

On Wednesday, the Green River District Health Department said that Ohio County has its first two confirmed coronavirus cases. That leaves Hart County as the only county bordering Grayson County to not report any COVID-19 cases.

The remaining counties’ bordering Grayson County have the following number of confirmed coronavirus cases (as of late Wednesday evening): Hardin six, Edmonson two, Breckinridge two, and Butler County one.

In publicly announcing Ohio County’s first two COVID-19 cases, Judge-Executive David Johnston touted the manner in which his county’s residents have responded to social distancing and other mandates related to the virus.

“We are at the point that we’re going to announce that Ohio County now has two confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus,” Johnston said. “Since we were so long in getting this, I believe that’s because we’ve done a great on our social distancing and not having meetings, and so many of our businesses have closed. The one’s that haven’t (closed) have taken all kinds of precautions to keep from spreading this disease. And I really thank you for that. And I believe if you continue to do your social distancing and avoid meetings, and actually, don’t travel anywhere you don’t have to, except for work and the care you have to give someone. I’m proud of our community. I believe we will get through this crisis.”

Dr. Josh Skibba, a cardiologist and Chief Medical Officer at Ohio County Healthcare hospital, said during the announcement officials are expecting additional cases after several screening sites were set up across the county. At those screening sites, health officials will determine if the person is eligible for testing, and if so, they will undergo COVID-19 testing at Ohio County Healthcare hospital.

Neither of the two coronavirus patients in Ohio County are currently being treated at a hospital.
