Greenville’s mayor initiates curfew for people younger than 18

In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the city of Greenville has issued a curfew for anyone under the age of 18.

The curfew went into effect Friday night at 8:00.

Greenville, the county seat of Muhlenberg County, has a population of approximately 4,300 residents and is located 60 miles southwest of Leitchfield, just south of the Western Kentucky Parkway.

As of Sunday evening, Muhlenberg County (population approx. 31,000) has 17 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with three patients hospitalized, according to the Muhlenberg County Health Department. Five victims have recovered from the virus.

The Executive Order issued by Greenville Mayor Jan Yonts reads in part:

The City hereby declares a curfew from the hour of 8:00 p.m. CDT until 6:00 a.m. CDT for all persons 18 years of age or younger.

Effective upon signing this order no person 18 years of age or younger shall be in public between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or at work, or going to or from their place of employment.

This Executive Order shall remain in effect until terminated by the issuance of another Executive Order when I determine that the need for a curfew no longer exists or until the conclusion of the State of Emergency as declared by the Kentucky Governor.
