Grayson County Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson said Monday night that he plans to conduct coronavirus (COVID-19) briefings every day this week, and possibly Saturday and Sunday.

Over the weekend, six new cases of the virus were confirmed in Grayson County, with all the victims either staff or residents of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation. At least nine of the county’s COVID-19 cases are linked to Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation, with the county’s only COVID-19 death, 96-year-old William Dean Smith, also connected to the facility (it should be noted that Smith was a short-time resident of the nursing home).

On Monday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced there were 408 positive cases of coronavirus among nursing home residents across the commonwealth. One-hundred-eighty-four staff members at those facilities have been infected with the virus, and 59 COVID-19 deaths are associated with nursing homes.

While Henderson has previously said that Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation is doing all it can to limit the spread of the highly contagious virus, he wishes to keep the community informed and updated as the facility battles to keep its staff and residents safe.

In total, Grayson County has 16 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 13 of those positive diagnoses coming since Saturday, April 11.

The COVID-19 briefings will be held at 3:30 every afternoon and can be seen live on the K105 Facebook and YouTube pages. They are also available on 104.9, 103.9 and AM 870.
