Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Kentucky have nearly reached 3,400, as 181 newly confirmed cases were announced Wednesday.

(Clarification: Beshear announced 196 new cases on Wednesday, raising the state’s total to 3,373 cases of the virus; 181 more than Tuesday’s 3,192 cases. The discrepancy is likely attributed to a double-count of some positive cases on Tuesday.)

Gov. Andy Beshear, at his daily briefing, said the state now has 3,373 confirmed cases of the virus. The governor announced 14 new deaths, increasing the commonwealth’s COVID-19 death toll to 185 (5.5 percent).

The deaths announced Wednesday were from Boyd, Fayette, Jefferson (6), Graves, Hopkins, Grant, Campbell, and Kenton (2) counties.

Forty-one Kentucky counties reported new cases over the last 24 hours, including nearby Butler, Ohio, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, and Hardin counties.

Beshear said currently 301 COVID-19 victims are hospitalized, with 161 of those patients being treated in intensive care. In total, 1,105 (32.8 percent) victims have been treated in a hospital with 564 (16.7 percent of all cases, 51 percent of all hospitalized patients) victims admitted to the ICU.

According to Beshear, 1,311 (38.9 percent) people have recovered from the illness, and 36,075 people have undergone COVID-19 testing.

Just prior to the governor’s briefing, Grayson County Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson announced six cases of the virus had been confirmed on Wednesday. All six cases are connected to Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation. Four the cases are residents of the facility and two of the victims are staff members. All the victims are women.

The nursing home is connected to 18 victims of the pandemic; nine residents and nine employees.

Grayson County now has 24 confirmed cases of the highly contagious illness. One death, 96-year-old William Dean Smith, is blamed on the virus.
