In what counts as good news in these trying and strange times, only one new case of coronavirus (COVID-19) was confirmed in Grayson County over the previous 24 hours.

Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson made the announcement at his daily briefing on Monday.

There are now 61 cases of COVID-19 in the county.

The new victim is a 43-year-old woman and employee of Perdue in Butler County. Her diagnosis marks the third Perdue employee who lives in Grayson County to test positive for the virus.

Forty-six (75.4 percent) of Grayson County’s COVID-19 cases have been either residents or employees of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation: 33 residents and 13 employees. Henderson said Sunday all Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation residents have been tested, with several test results pending.

All the Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation patients, as well as the one victim from Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation, are in stable condition.

Four Grayson County victims are currently hospitalized: a 66-year-old man in stable but critical condition; an 87-year-old woman (Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation resident) in critical condition; a 96-year-old man (Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation resident) in stable condition; and a 56-year-old woman in stable condition.

There have been, according to officials, 403 COVID-19 tests administered in Grayson County, with 320 of those tests returned negative for the virus. Twenty-two tests are pending.

Five victims have recovered from the virus, and the county has one COVID-19-related death, 96-year-old William Dean Smith.

Grayson County road projects

All road projects have been suspended by the state due to revenue concerns, Henderson noted. Recently state inspectors closed the bridge on Watson School Road because the structure was deemed unsound. It’s unclear when the bridge, previously scheduled to be supplanted this spring or summer, will be replaced.
