Grayson County now has four coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths in the last three days.

Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson announced at his daily COVID-19 briefing that a 66-year-old man and 97-year-old woman have passed away. The 97-year-old woman who died, Ruth Lee Embry, is the mother of Leitchfield Mayor Rick Embry and Leitchfield Utilities Superintendent Dwight Embry.

She was a resident of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation.

Embry’s passing marks the fourth Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation resident to die from the disease, as two 96-year-old male residents (William Dean Smith, Sam Morman) of the facility perished from COVID-19, as well as 101-year-old Alma Shartzer, whose death was announced Wednesday.

A total of five Grayson County residents have died due to coronavirus.

Four new COVID-19 cases were reported by Henderson, as a 70-year-old man, 84-year-old man, 69-year-old woman, and 91-year-old woman have been diagnosed with the virus. All four victims are residents of Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation.

Their diagnoses make seven Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation residents who have contracted the highly contagious and deadly virus. Three confirmed cases of the virus in Grayson County are Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center staff members.

Grayson County now has 69 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Henderson said two Grayson County COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized.

Fifty-four (78.2 percent) of the county’s COVID-19 cases have been residents or employees of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation (33 residents, 14 employees), or Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation (7 residents).

There have been, according to officials, 496 COVID-19 tests administered in Grayson County, with 379 of those tests returned negative for the virus. Forty-eight tests are pending.

Seventeen (24.6 percent) victims have recovered from the virus, as of Wednesday afternoon. No updated recovery numbers were announced at Thursday’s briefing.
